Write for us
Global Spotlight welcomes pitches that make an object, material or design choice easier to understand. Send proposals through the Contact page, with a short account of the subject, your central question and why a general reader might care.
What to pitch
We consider explanatory pieces, comparisons, object histories, close readings of design details and practical ways to observe familiar things. A strong pitch has a specific object or group of objects at its centre, rather than a broad theme that could lead anywhere.
What makes a good proposal
Tell us the working title, the main point the piece would make, the material you expect to consult and what distinguishes your approach. Note any uncertainty or specialist knowledge the subject requires. Keep the proposed scope manageable and avoid claims that depend on unsafe instructions, invented testing or access you do not have.
Sending your proposal
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then say clearly that your message is a pitch. Include a brief outline and a way to reply. A proposal is not a commission; please wait for an editorial response before drafting a full piece.
Objects make human choices visible
A handle, seam or hinge is a decision you can inspect. We look at objects as made things, shaped by materials, skills and the ways people use them.
